Construction Tips

  • Reduce the width of the body to fit the axles, with both the wheels and the end-caps on, as one of the very first steps.  Otherwise you end up carving really ugly ‘wheel wells’ at the last minute to allow the wheels to turn, after you try to put on the axles in the final step and realize they don’t fit.

  • Make sure the axle slots are wide enough to fit the axles as one of the first steps, while you are still dealing with a square block of wood that is easy to drill out vs. a curvy racecar.

  • Make sure the car is exactly on weight, before you get to registration.  A digital kitchen scale works well.  You can get weight kits up at American Eagle hobby store at about 125th and Lake City Way.

  • Use lots of graphite on the wheels just before the race.
