Stan Sorensen - Expedition Navigator

   

This is Stan's 6th year in Y Guides.  His son Robbie graduated with the Stingers in 2006.  Son Grant is in his 4th year with the Mini Men. 

Stan grew up in the Eastern Sierra mountains and came North to Tacoma in 1982 to attend University of Puget Sound.  He, his wife Mary, and the aforementioned sons enjoy skiing, fishing, the Mariners, and the Huskies.

Chris Robinson - Communities Program Director

Chris has worked for the YMCA of Greater Seattle for over 6 years and with the University Family YMCA for just over 2 years now.  His YMCA life began early on as a baseball kid and continued on through summers of Camp Orkila fun!

Chris grew up in Auburn, Washington but has spent the majority of his adult life in Seattle (with the exception of a couple year stint in Los Angeles).  He enjoys most outdoor activities especially hiking, camping and fishing.  Chris is also an avid sports fan and loves the Huskies, Mariners and Seahawks (so life’s a little tough of late) but his heart mostly lies with the Los Angeles Dodgers!!!  However, when trying to work on his sensitive side - he also enjoys painting, drawing and movies.  

This will be Chris's first full year with the Rainier expedition and he can’t wait to meet more dads and their kids.

Matt McGinnis - Assistant Navigator


Matt and his wife Susan both grew up in NE Seattle and currently live east of the University of Washington.  They have 2 daughters, the oldest is in her 3rd year of Y-guides, the younger can’t wait to join in 2009.  The family enjoys skiing, boating, and of course Y-Guides!  Matt’s professional life has included managing a SCUBA diving store in Seattle and teaching SCUBA lessons followed by several years at Microsoft.  He currently manages the Maxum line of boats and yachts for U.S. Marine.

Mike Wayte - Webmaster

Mike is a fourth-year veteran of Y-Guides.  His second favorite part about being a Y-Guide is the ability to wear a Raccoon skin cap, ragged leather vest, and matching chaps to as many events as possible.  His favorite part is having the opportunity to bond with his children over experiences they will remember for a lifetime.   He is married to Charlotte and they have two sons, Emmett and Angus. 

Mike grew up on the east coast; however Mercer Island hardly qualifies as it's still in the 206.  Bellevue is East Coast.  Mikes first car was a green Datsun 710 wagon and he prefers gumbo over fried grits and okra.  Mike has given up Mountain Dew and Pixy Styx, but still recommends it for other people's children.  Mike is a sales representative for FabMatrix, selling into the electronics manufacturing and design sector.
